Book Reviews
Four-Eyed Philip provides a voice for bullied children who all too often are left silent and fearful. A recent study found that high school student violence emerges from feelings of persecution or harassment, and from being bullied. Sadly, being bullied can begin early in a child’s school experience. When the only message a bullied child is given is to “just ignore it,” harm to the bullied child is imminent, and eventual harm to others is very possible. Four-Eyed Philip offers teachers and parents the opportunity for important conversation with students about the bullied and, equally important, those who bully.
Every seven minutes a child is bullied. Four-Eyed Philip provides excellent opportunities for students to discuss their experiences with bullying and to strategize ways to reduce bullying. It also alerts adults that they are responsible for intervening in all bullying events at school and at home.
Dwyer shines the light of sensitivity and compassion on
the hurt and heartache of bullying.
